Daily Sketch Thread

Postby Ranoka » Sun Jan 14, 2007 2:05 pm

Does what it says on the tin

Just a few house keeping rules:
Traditional and Digital sketches are both fine.
Keep images less than 600 pixels wide, if you want to show a larger image, please have a smaller version in the thread and then a link going to a full size version.
If drawing nudity, please give a warning and post a link instead of posting the image directly in the thread. Only tasteful nudes, no porn!
Copying is fine as a way of learning, just mention it quickly if you have so people know if it's from your imagination or not.
Please keep short posts like "cool drawing" to a minimum, because they don't really help anyone out, critiquing is encouraged, but please say what you like about the drawing.
Don't quote the images otherwise they end up showing up multiple times.

So to start off, here's some sketches I did yesterday:

Here's a close up of a few parts that I like best:

Everything from my imagination, other than the girl on the left who is from some DVD cover.

Remember, have fun, and try not to post without an image :D

Great WayToon :D
I think you should treat yourself to some copy paper and a good 2B pencil, that's what I've been drawing with. You really shouldn't be drawing on lined paper ;)

Here are mine from the last couple days:

All these were drawn from some of my DVDs by freeze frame.
Do you know them all?

Great drawings everyone! Keep it up :D

I had a bit of a drawing session over the weekend, and thought I'd show you what I did.

Image
I've started re-designing some old characters I came up with when I was 11. I'll try and find some of my old drawings when I'm next at my parents house, to compare them.
So here you're getting an insight into how I'm developing and gradually evolving the characters.

Image
This character I'm trying to develop is basicly a balled guinea pig "Bigwig" who wears different wigs. On the top right of the first page you can see how I drew him when I was 11 (drew from memory).

Image
I felt like I was getting somewhere with Bigwig, so started on French Frog (hey, I was 11 :P), and Lukie the Hedgehog who I found more fun, but need to work out how to do the spines.

Image
I tried Find the Ant, Lucky the Bird (both boring atm.) I like the top most Bigwig, but the other two seem to be worse than earlier ones

Image
I had a lot of fun on this page, they're all characters I developed in 2003, so could be a lot looser drawing them because I know how they look so wasn't developing them as much, but I do try refinements and tweaks. Although the bear on the middle left is a silly design experiment

Image
Another fun page, I cleaned up the 2 pictures of Teacosy because I was quite pleased with them. Sventex the skeleton (I made him up in 1998 (or 97?), he's actually a character from Bored Aliens)

Hope you like them, I'm probably going to be adding more very soon because I'm really enjoying drawing a lot right now.

Thats exactly what I do. Then I outline the final parts of the drawing with a 3b-8b. Whatever I can get to first. I cant upload my stuff yet, because my computer is recking up. (Bloody computer....boy I outta...)

Cheers
Moose.

WHOA! Brilliant, Chris! I love the highlight on the hair! :) Is it for a project?
I also love "the New Adventures of Flop & Bigwig"-sketches Ranoka! I would post a sketch but my scanner is no more :(

Chris that character looks very easy to animate I can almost hear the smart alexy, sarcastic remark coming out of his mouth. How did you create this character. Did it just "happen" or were you thnking along a certain line when you did this? I like it also that you gave him a prop, ie. the Yo, Yo. It 's definitely something that can be used to define him, like Linus' security blanket. You could use that yo yo to pop someone when they get too close fto him or think of more creative ways for him to use it.
